Beliefs

Here is a summary of what I believe. These are the things that I am convinced are true, they form the basis of how I live and how I think about the world, life and my purpose in existing.

Note that this page is incomplete, I am adding to this list as time allows (July 2011)

The Bible

  • The Bible consists of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments and is the inspired Word of God, without error in the original documents. (2 Timothy 3:16,  2 Peter 1:21,  1 Corinthians 2:13)
  • The will of God as revealed in the Bible is the final authority in all matters of life and faith. All questions of truth must be tested against the Bible and for matters not directly addressed in the Bible, the consistent principles taught in Scripture must guide judgment. (Matthew 24:35,  John 17:17)
  • As sinful humans we are unable to correctly interpret the Bible without divine assistance. Therefore, the Holy Spirit’s work in our hearts and prayer for that assistance is essential in understanding the Bible. (John 16:13-14,  Matthew 22:29,  1 Corinthians 2:12-16,  Psalm 119:18,  Ephesians 1:18-19)

God

  • God is One (Deuteronomy 6:4), living (1 Timothy 4:10), sovereign (Daniel 4:34-35).
  • God exists eternally in three persons, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Jesus

  • Jesus is the Son of God.
  • He was killed by crucifixion and was resurrected with a physical body three days after his death.
  • He was born by the virgin Mary.
  • Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human.

Creation

I believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the Father of Jesus Christ my Savior. He created the universe with all it’s wonders, glories and mysteries. In His own image He created Man and Woman. I don’t know whether God created the universe in 7 days of 24 hours or over some longer period – He has the power to create it instantly so it doesn’t matter much to me. I am convinced that Adam and Eve were two real people, Adam created from the ‘dust of the earth’ and Eve made from part of Adam.

The first man and woman walked with God in the garden of paradise, enjoying unmediated fellowship with Him. Adam was given a command to obey, “do not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil”. Satan, in the form of the serpent, deceived Eve into eating from the tree, Adam also took of the fruit and ate it. This disobedience (sin) broke the fellowship they had enjoyed with God and the couple were cast out of the garden and not permitted to return. As a result of Adam’s sin a curse was placed upon all of creation.
