Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.
(Luke 6:36 ESV)
My previous post in this series looked at justice and I commented that as I pray for God to be glorified in His justice I also plead for mercy for my children. Here we turn to asking God to make our children merciful.
At times children can be very merciful and loving, their empathy and compassion can far exceed that of adults. I am praying for my children that they will persevere in being merciful and consistently bear this fruit throughout their lives.
For myself I ask Jesus to bring me back to the childlike compassion and mercy that I seem to have lost over the years. All too often I can be like the pharisee, when I should cry out like the tax collector: ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ (Luke 18:13)
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
(Matthew 5:7 ESV)
